Eight hunters nabbed at Somawathi

Eight suspects led by an army deserter who used several kinds of explosives to hunt animals at the Somawathi National Park were apprehended by Wild Life officers

After the suspects were arrested, 20 high explosives known as “Hakka Pattas” and other items used to hunt animals were recovered.

The suspects had buried the explosives in tree trucks to hunt tree truck dwelling animals such as porcupines.

A team led by Wild Life officer J. A. P, Wijayakumara had made the arrest and the suspects will be presented in Court. Further investigations are being carried out by Wild Life officials. (K.D.Vijayapala)
