Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardane stressed in Parliament today that the central government should be involved more and more in the formulation of national polices in health and education leaving aside the provincial councils from the process.

Mr. Gunawardane said that the government was in the process of introducing new education reforms in this direction. He said that what the provincial councils were doing in the education sector was not known to anyone in certain instances.

The Chief Whip was answering a question in this regard by UNP MP Buddhika Patirane.  Education and health are among the subjects presently devolved to the provincial councils under the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
