The government deliberately postpone the election of
certain local authorities and its agenda was supported by the Elections Commissioner who postpone the LG polls of over 60 local authorities, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFe) said today.

CaFFE Director Ranjith Keerthi Tennakoon said that there is ample space for election malpractice to take place especially in concern to counting votes as a result of not holding the polls simultaneously throughout the country. “It should also be noted that the Elections Commission and the Police Departments are not taking proper measures to ensure
that even the basic election regulations are effectively implemented and the Elections Commissioner himself is violating the election laws,” he said.

Speaking further Mr. Tennakoon also added that thousands of voters are at the risk of losing their voting rights due to the Government’s failure to ensure the voting rights of the people. (Lakna Paranamanna)
