Lawyer of MP Duminda Silva informed the Colombo Magistrate today that Mr.Silva would not be able to come to Sri Lanka for at least two months as he had to undergo another surgery in Singapore today.

President’s Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya said former presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra’s daughter Hirunika was continuing to make media statements on the court and its proceedings.

He said she must stop this or else he would expose to the Court and the media the news items that appeared against Hirunika on websites.
Mr. Warnakulasuriya said Hirunika had asked the IGP to arrest Duminda Silva whom she alleged had come back to Sri Lanka. Because of this news item, media personnel had gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of Duminda Silva.

CID officers Shani Abeysekera submitted that Duminda Silva’s statement had been sent to the Attorney General and he would respond to the CID very soon.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis in his order on the contempt charges filed by Hemantha Warnakulasuriya PC observed that the Magistrate’s Court did not have jurisdiction to hear a contempt of court offence said to have been committed outside court. He dismissed the contempt charges against Hurunika Premachandra. The Magistrate said the parties can seek redress from the Court of Appeal against the dismissal. The suspects were remanded till June 21.(FT)
