Parliamentarian Duminda Silva was removed from the ventilator this morning and is gradually recovering though he still continues to be unconscious, Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital sources said

“He is still unconscious and will gain consciousness gradually,” Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital Director Dr. Shavendra Gamage said.  MP Silva was on a life support system at the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital following a surgery on Saturday evening to remove two bullets from his head.

The surgery was concluded around 9pm on Saturday and he was placed under observation at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However later the neurosurgeon stated that both bullets were removed from his skull during the surgery.

Speaking about the parliamentarian’s situation Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital Director Dr. Gamage said his condition was stable. “Now it is the time to give the function to the brain and monitor whether it accepts it or not,” he said.

“We are satisfied about his situation following the surgery. The neurosurgeon and our team of doctors are visiting him throughout as part of the process in ascertaining his situation and improvement,” Dr. Gamage said.
