Drug kingpin with SL link arrested in India

A drug kingpin with links in Sri Lanka and Kuwait was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau officials at the international airport in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, while heroin worth Rs one crore was seized from his aide in Chennai.

Based on information given by his aide Rasool Mydeen, who was arrested in Chennai with one kg of heroin yesterday, Amjath Khan was arrested today as he was about to board a flight to Sri Lanka from here, NCB Zonal Director Prem Anand Sinha said in a statement.
 
Investigations revealed that Khan, a native of Ramanathapuram was married to a Lankan citizen and has drug links in Sri Lanka and Kuwait, he said.
 
Earlier, acting on a tip-off, NCB officials arrested Mydeen, who arrived in Chennai from Delhi by rail with one kg heroin packed in polythene bags, estimated to be valued at Rs one crore in the international market. He revealed during questioning that Khan was leaving for Lanka from here today.
 
Further investigation is on to find out the source of the drugs, Sinha said.
 
This is the third seizure of heroin in the last couple of months by NCB. The other two were at Chennai International Airport while the drug was being trafficked to Kuwait.(PTI)
