DP Western Provincial Councillor Aruna Deepal said the Provincial Councillors crossed over to the government after the government promised to offer them Rs. 50 million and a vehicle permit.
“It is regrettable that these Councillors who were elected by anti-government votes have joined the government for Rs. 50 million and a vehicle permit. Their fate will be decided at a public Court in the future. We will take legal action against them after it is referred to the disciplinary committee. The legal documents in this regard were being processed right now,” Mr. Deepal said.
He said the Councillors who crossed over had taken a wrong decision at a time when those who crossed over earlier were also planning to leave the government.
Democratic Party Western Provincial Councillor Susil Kidelpitiya said the government was bankrupt to beg the votes of the Democratic Party by taking their Councillors into government’s fold.
“The government is such bankrupt to win over our Provincial Councillors to its fold by giving them financial gains and perks. This is another futile attempt of the government to sabotage our party,” Mr. Kidelpitiya said.
DP national organizer Gayan Withanage said it was better for the party when such people who were greedy for money left the party.
Three Democratic Party provincial councilors S.K. Ashoka Dayaratne of the Gampaha district, Galle Beddegama organiser Padmasiri Silva and Malhami Rathnayake of Kurunegala District crossed over to the government. (Ajith Siriwardana)
