Docs strike over death threat

A group of 870 doctors including Specialists,  training doctors attached to the Kandy Teaching Hospital held a protest this morning urging the authorities to provide security for them, following a death threat to a doctor.

Due to the protest that lasted for over four hours the functioning of the Hospital came to a standstill, including the OPD.

Following a death of a sport official during an operation at the hospital, doctors have been receiving death threats by a several anonymous callers, doctors had said. They also revealed that later some leaflets had been distributed in the town accusing the doctors for the death of the sport official.

Later a special discussion was held between the Doctors and the Police, who assured to provide enough securities for the Doctors. (JAL)
