The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has warned that it will take appropriate action if the government fails to adhere to the latest court ruling, which allows General Sarath Fonseka to attend the parliament consultative commitee meetings, DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Daily Mirror online.
The party remained hopeful that the government would respect the ruling of the court after the court issued a second ruling last week to allow the General to attend all parliament meetings. However Dissanayake said his party will closely monitor the situation and if General Fonseka was not allowed to attend the meetings then the DNA would resort to taking necessary action.
“We are hopeful that the government will respect the court order. If it does not, we will decide what to do,” Dissanayake said.
In mid July the court ordered the prisons commissioner to ensure General Sarath Fonseka’s right to his parliamentary privileges including allowing him to attend the parliament consultative commitee meetings. The judge sent a written order to this effect to the Prisons Commissioner.
Last week the court emphasized that General Sarath Fonseka’s right to his parliamentary privileges should be protected. (Daily Mirror online)
