A woman suspected of defrauding over Rs. 5 million from devotees promising divine cures for different ailments was arrested by the Aralaganwila police after a complaint was made by a Kurunagela businessman who had given Rs. 2.3 million to cure his child.

The suspect is reported to have charged Rs. 30000 to 40000 from a single devotee to cure their illnesses. The victims in many cases had pawned or sold their belongings to come up with the necessary funds to pay the suspect.
