Dissidents are robbers:Tilvin

The JVP today referred to its dissidents as robbers who took away party’s property including a photocopy machine and a computer.

Addressing the 22nd death commemoration of party’s founder leader Rohana Wijeweera, party’s general Secretary Tilvin Silva said that these dissidents whom he referred to as a group of robbers were now trying to distort the ideology or Mr. Wijeweera. Mr. Silva vowed that these elements would never be allowed to distort this ideology persevered by the party since its inception.

“We are not bothered about these robbers taking away our party’ physical property. They have broken into the party’s library and stolen some books. We do not mind it if they read the books stolen. Also, we heard that they had forcibly taken away some pigs from a farm in the Gampaha area. GThey will probably, give membership of their party to these pigs. Come what may, we cannot tolerate them trying to distort the ideology and policies of comrade Wijeweera. We will protect it at the cost of our lives,” he vowed.

Also, he said Mr. Wijeweera always stood for Marxism to be adapted to changing ground realities. “Comrade Wijeweera chose the path of doing politics alone while fighting for the rights concerned together.  Therefore, he teamed up with other communist parties such as the Lanka Samasamaja Party to fight against the Prevention of Terrorism Act introduced at that time. He introduced the concept of fielding a common candidate for the presidential election in 1982,” Mr. Silva said.

The General Secretary said, “Unlike those who shout today, Mr. Wijeweera never attempted to do politics with theories. He simplified complex political theories encountered in Marxism and explained them to his political followers. He was also well aware of social and cultural realities. Ours is a country with a majority population of Sinhala Buddhists.  It is not our fault. It is a result of a historical evolutionary process. Having realised this reality, he formed a Bhikkhu wing attached to the JVP to work along other organisations affiliated to the party.” (Kelum Bandara)
