Displaced people in North can now vote

18 June 2013 02:47 pm

Parliament today enacted a new bill that enables displaced people to cast their ballots at the elections to the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) if their names have not been entered in an electoral register outside the North.

The government presented the bill as an urgent matter in the national interest and it was taken up for debate.

However, it was adjourned after the opposition asked for more time to study the bill and its electoral implications. After submissions by the opposition, the bill was put to a vote and passed unanimously today with amendments.(KB & YP)
