The government is in the process of obtaining feedback from the Sri Lankan Diaspora on their willingness to vote at future elections held in Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Justice and Law Reforms is in the process of developing a website to obtain the feedback from the Diaspora, the Media coordinator of the Ministry Sarath Godakanda told Daily Mirror online.
“We are designing a website for this purpose so that various persons living overseas can endorse their willingness to vote at elections held in Sri Lanka. After gathering this information we intend to submit it to the relevant authorities including the Elections Commissioner,” Godakanda told Daily Mirror online.
However, he added, there would be no means of implementing this system prior to this election.
Last week the Ministry of Justice and Law reforms put out a release that the National Congress is of the view that all Sri Lankan nationals living and working abroad should be afforded an opportunity to vote at Elections.
The Leader of the Sri Lanka National Congress Minister Milinda Moragoda said that there were well over a million Sri Lankans living overseas and they should also be given the opportunity to vote at elections.
“This will help us to test as to how Sri Lankans overseas feel and what they think about the political environment back at home.”
