The engine of the Senkadagala Menike train had detached itself from the other compartments with passengers and travelled by itself a short distance when the train was leaving the Maradana Railway Station this evening.

According to Railway Department sources an auto coupling attaching the first compartment and the train engine had being detached resulting in the incident. “This could have been due to a technical fault or negligence of an employee,” they said.

However the train had later continued its journey after the engine was re-attached to the compartments. (SD & LSP)
