The police say they arrested seven Ceylinco depositors yesterday for laying siege to the residence of Ceylinco Chairman Lalith Kotalawala and preventing the inmates from leaving the premises.

In a scene similar to that which took place outside the UN compound in Colombo last week, a group of protestors blocked the entrance to Kotalawala’s house and later setup tents outside and staged a protest demanding their money back.

According to the police the protestors who had surrounded the Bambalapitiya residence of Ceylinco Chairman Lalith Kotalawala had blocked the only two doors used to enter the house thus preventing the inmates from coming out.

Following investigations launched by the Bambalapitiya police seven protestors were taken into custody and later released on bail, police spokesman Priyashantha Jayakody said. The Bambalapitiya police are probing the incident. (Daily Mirror online)
