The Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered two mobile phone service providers to provide details pertaining to three telephone numbers alleged to have been used by a person who allegedly sent text messages posing as President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Filing a B report before Magistrate Thilina Gamage, the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) sought a court order to obtain details regarding two telephone numbers alleged to have been used by the offender.

The CCD informed court that it had received a complaint from a staff member attached to a private media institution stating that he received a text message on January 1 stating “Happy New Year Malli, inna yakungen oluwa parissam karagena jeewath wenna. Mama Mahinda Aiya”.

The complainant further told police that the same type of message had also been received by another staff member of his institution which read: “Kohomada Chanaka, Dakunen Chande Illanna Asada?”  Finally, he had requested the police to conduct an investigation into the incident. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
