Death toll rises to seven

Seven persons were killed, one person is missing and more than 3627 have been affected due to heavy rain, floods and landslides in the Kegalle, Galle, Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara Districts by today, the Disaster Management Center said

592 persons were affected in Seethawak in the Colombo District while Kegalle was worst hit with 5 deaths and 329 families being affected by the recent adverse weather.  

The main cause of deaths was reported as landslides while one lighting and drowning incident was also reported.

The Irrigation Department also advised persons living close to the banks of the Kelaniya and Ma-Oya rivers to be vigilant of the rising water levels due to the heavy rainfall.  (Daily MIrror online)
