Death sentence imposed

The former OIC and three other officers of the Angulana Police Station who were accused for the abduction and killing of two youth while in their custody were sentenced to death with 40 years imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs. 100,000 on each of them by the Colombo trial – at-bar judges today.

Former OIC of Angulana police post Thumbegedara Vittie Newton along with three police constables namely Galagamage Indrawansa Kumarasiri, Nihal Dhammika Jayaratne and Janapriya Senaratne were imposed the death sentence and 40 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000. This was imposed for conspiring to abduct, abducting and murdering Dinesh Tharanga Fernando and Dhanushka Udayakantha Aponso on August 12, 2009. (F. Thajudeen)
