Death sentence for heroin peddler

A heroin peddler  accused of trafficking 10.8 grams of heroin was sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court today.

The accused Sandanam Ganeshan of Bloemendhal Road, Kimbulawala was sentenced to death by High Court Judge Padman Surasena after a lengthy   trial.

The accused was indicted by the Attorney General for peddling 10.8 grams of heroin on or about September 13, 2009 at an overhead bridge at Bloemendhal Road, Colombo.

The Police Narcotics Bureau officers recovered the heroin from the trouser- pocket the accused had on at the time of the raid. The raid was conducted by the Police on information received by a private informant.

Finally the judge observed that there were contradictions in the evidence of the accused and the prosecution witness on certain salient points. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
