Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Nuwara Eliya District parliamentarian S. P. Rajathurai said that he resigned from the CWC today (08) and would represent as a government member in the parliament.

CWC member Rajathurai was elected to the parliament contesting for the 2010 general election under the United People’s Freedoms Alliance (UPFA).

“I was elected to the Parliament directly even without competing to any Provincial council election because people trusted me. They trusted me to work for them,” he said.

Sundaram Perumal Rajathurai is a lawyer and also a former acting judge in Nuwaraeliya District and had competed to the 2010 General Election under an invitation received by the CWC at that time.

He said that he realised that he could not act independently and to serve people due to lack of democracy in the party.

“I wrote a letter regarding the issues in the party and planned to deliver it tomorrow (09) to the party. Even before the letter was delivered some in the party made assumption and distributed the news that I resigned from the party. That’s when I decided to resign,” he said.
