Veteran dramatist no more

Award-winning dramatist, actor and translator Bandula Vithanage passed away yesterday at the age of 74 and his funeral will take place at 4.30 pm on Thursday September 4 at the Borella General Cemetery.

His remains will remain at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour in Borella today (2) and tomorrow (3) while it will be brought to the Art Gallery in Colombo 7 at 9.30 am on Thursday, his son filmmaker Nalaka Vithanage said.

Bandula who started his career as a translator in the sixities, later made a name for himself as an actor and dramatist. Among his plays were Eliya, E Sonduru Minisa, Megha Garjana, Gangawak Sapaththu Kabalak, Wenisiye Welenda, Senehebara Dolly, Hiru Dahasa, Romaya Gini Ganee 1 and 2 and several others.
