Parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga said today that the credit for the impending release of the former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka should go to the Sri Lankan people and the international community that had supported him during his imprisonment.

Mr Ranatunga, who is the spokesman for the Peoples Movement to Free General Sarath Fonseka also said that people from across the country including those at grassroots level, Sri Lankans living abroad, politicians and even government members had extended their support to release Mr. Fonseka although they could not show their support in public.

“A lot of people were involved in getting him released from prison and therefore the credit should not go to a single person or to our movement alone. There are several people who supported him throughout,” Ranatunga said. (Olindhi Jayasundere)
