Youth representing the Students Union of the Sabaragamuwa University who were staging a protest at Town Hall were dispersed late this evening by the police on a court order. The students however said they will continue the protest tomorrow.

The order was taken by the police as the students had been causing disturbance to the public by occupying the pavement. A senior police officer at the scene said that as the elections draw nearer it is relevant to ensure the security in the area, especially in Colombo.

The students earlier staged a protest in front of the University Grant Commission (UGC) today against the alleged assault by the police at the university premises earlier this week. The students were dispersed from the UGC premises after which they moved towards the Town Hall area.
