Court orders probe on A’pura prison incident

The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) has been directed to investigate an attempt by LTTE cadres in detention to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka internationally.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli made this direction after TID detectives told Court that LTTE cadres held at the Anuradhapura Prisons had on Prabakaran’s birthday attempted to celebrate Mahaveer Day.

The detectives said the LTTE cadres had injured themselves and photographed the injuries to be sent to the international community so as to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka.

They said 19 mobile phones, six mobile phone chargers, iron rods and sharpened zinc sheets had been recovered during a search operation carried out by prison officers headed by the Anuradhapura Prison’s Chief. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
