Country wide disaster drills started: DMC

National disaster evacuation drills were being held in all the 25 districts in the country starting 11 a.m. today, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said

 

Drills were held on floods, landslide and Tsunami, Kodippili said.

 

The land slide districts drills will start at 1 p.m. in seven Districts namely Rathnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Kegalle, Matale and Kandy.

 

Tsunami related drills will be held in fourteen districts at 3 p.m. including Colombo, Kalutara, Trincomalee, Ampara, Galle, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Puttlam, Hambantota, Matara, Gampaha, Mullaithivu and Batticoloa

 

The drills on floods had already started at 11 a.m. in five districts prone to floods, namely Anuradhpura, Polonnaruwa Vavuniya, Moneragala and Kurunegala.
Residents would be trained to react properly in the face of disasters during the drills, Kodippili said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
