The police officer who was seen in flames during the UNP led protest campaign against the 18th Amendment to the constitution yesterday has been admitted to the police hospital for treatment.

Police media spokesman Priyashantha Jayakody speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that the police officer had sustained burn injuries on his neck after his uniform collar caught fire during the demonstration.

A UNP supporter was seen throwing a cloth which was engulfed in flames towards the police officers who were holding the demonstrators back using barricades in order to prevent them from heading towards Parliament.

The cloth fell between the police officers resulting in one officer’s collar catching fire which was subsequently doused with the help of his colleagues.

Asked if there is a move to arrest the UNP supporter, the police spokesman said that a decision in that regard has not yet been arrived at. (Daily Mirror online)
