The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) has decided to put forward a set of policies and conditions to the Middle Eastern countries when they recruit Sri Lankan maids, Additional General Manager L.K. Ruhunuge said.

He said that this decision will be announced to these countries through the Sri Lankan embassies and consulates located in these countries.

Ruhunuge said countries will have to agree upon these policies and conditions before they employ maids. He also said that officials of the Middle Eastern countries will have to ensure the safety and well being of maids in the future.

The FEB also intends to pressurize international organizations dealing with migrant workers to take legal action when maids are subjected to torture and cruelty by their employers. (Daily Mirror online)
