The organizers of the Akon concert said they have sought government approval to go ahead with the concert next month minus the R&B singer as several other artistes were also due to perform at the ‘Super Fest 2010’ in which Akon was to be the star attraction.

“We are currently discussing with the government in whether we should go ahead with the Super Fest 2010. Akon was the main artiste but there are a few other international artistes who are coming into the country to perform as well. We need government approval to go ahead with the concert,” Lasantha Samarasingha, Director of Platinum Entertainment told Daily Mirror online.

When questioned if the public will be refunded for the tickets purchased for the concert, Samarasingha said that if the government did not grant approval for the concert to go ahead minus Akon then they would begin to refund immediately.

“It all depends on the government decision now. If Super Fest 2010 is cancelled then we will refund. But if the government grants approval for the concert, then the event will take place as scheduled with all the other international artistes,” Samarsingha said.

The government last night decided to reject a visa for Akon to perform in Sri Lanka over allegations leveled against him regarding a controversial video which showed scantily clad women dancing around a Buddha statue. (Daily Mirror online)
