Complete revamp of Colombo roads

The Road Development Authority is currently in the process of finalizing planning for a comprehensive revamp of the road system in Colombo in order to ease the traffic congestion.

 “The main problem commuters face today is the traffic congestion on the roads, it is this problem that we are trying to address, therefore the study will look into methods of easing the congestion” a senior official at the RDA said.

“We have had initial discussions with the Universities of Moratuwa, Peradeniya and Ruhuna to conduct a full study on how we can improve the roads system, this study will take into consideration all relevant factors pertaining to the revamping of the system” he said.

The study will take into consideration the revamp of public transportation, parking and the development of alternate routes within the city. “We are looking at the study being combined by all three universities which will give us a clear understanding on what needs to be done and how we need to get about it” he said.

The Official pointed out that the RDA is currently focused the improvement of the traffic control system and junction planning. “We are still at the initial stages of these discussions, therefore we are heavily focused on doing what is within our capability to address these issues” he said.
