A committee will be appointed to investigate the use of Internet and Social Media Networks, Sri Lanka's Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRCSL) Director Anusha Palpita said.

He explained that an awareness programme would be introduced with the collaboration of the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team Coordination Centre (Sri Lanka CERT CC), Children & Women’s Bureau, National Child Protection Authority, Ministry Of Education, the government’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and several other institutions.

Several rounds of discussions had been made in this regard.

“We are planning to conduct this awareness programme on how to use the internet and other social media through television broadcasts, print media and other media,” Mr. Palpita said.

Special attention had been paid with regard to students, teachers and the general public, highlighting the importance of privacy and security in the use of social media networks, he added. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
