Airport Customs officers arrested an Indian national with 10 kilos of cocaine worth Rs.150 million that was hidden in a traveling bag. The suspect was heading to Bangkok from India, Superintend of Customs M.V Jayaratne said.

“He had come to the mishandle counter to collect the bag that he once misplaced on a visit to the island from Mumbai recently. The officers at the counter informed us about the bag that was suspicious”, he said.

“Due to suspicion he was caught by the security officers and the customs officers. This is by far the biggest cocaine seizure reported in the recent past as cocaine use is not popular in the country and we believe that the suspect was to take them to Bangkok”, he added.

The suspect earlier refused to show the bags when the custom officer wanted to search it. (Supun Dias and Kumarasiri Prasad)
