CMC employs prisoners

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has employed prisoners to assist with the road development work underway in the City in preparation for the Indian International Film Awards to be staged in Sri Lanka early next month.

Omar Kamil, Chief City Administrator of the Colombo Municipal Council speaking to Daily Mirror online said that 60 prisoners have been employed for this purpose and they have been provided with meals and other basic necessities.

Kamil also said that the road development work in and around Colombo has been hampered by the recent inclement weather conditions but he expressed optimism the deadline by which time the work should be completed will be met.

We are hopeful that the deadlines set for the clearing up and beautification of the Colombo city will be met, an optimistic Kamil told Daily Mirror online adding that carpeting of the roads in front of the Colombo library will commence soon and the greenery will also be placed accordingly.
