Steps are being taken to take down walls surrounding government buildings in the Colombo area making them more people and environmentally friendly, Colombo Municipal Council Special Commissioner Omar Kamil told Daily Mirror online

He added that as a first step all walls surrounding police buildings in the Colombo area were taken down as visible at present. The green turfs in those premises are now visible and this is moving towards a more environmentally friendly city, he added.

All these steps are being taken under the garden city concept of the Defense Secretary and the UDA and the Colombo Municipal Council is assisting in this regard, Mr. Kamil said.

Earlier it was reported that The Colombo Municipal Council was in the process of promoting the growing of vegetables in median strips (Centre Islands) along the Colombo roads and sponsors of these median strips have been requested to take steps to beautify these strips, taking into consideration the government’s move to promote the growing of vegetables, there by setting an example.
