The CID informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that they are terminating investigations into the case where it was alleged that a suspect connived with former UNP Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The CID said they are terminating investigations on the advice of the Attorney General and sought a date to file the report. The Magistrate allowed the application of the CID.
The CID had earlier told the Magistrate that they sought the sanction of the Defense Minister to further detain and question the suspects who allegedly connived with the former UNP Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The CID had initiated investigations on a complaint made by the IGP and the suspects were arrested and are being questioned under detention by the CID.
The suspect Sivaraja, Subha Krishnan, Nadaraiasingham Subash alias Stephen alias Janu, Linton, Sandirashan and Varadharajan are being question under detention at the CID.
The CID had said Nadarajasingham Subash is the nephew of Batticaloa District Parliamentarian Jeyananda Moorthy and had been working as his personal assistant.
The CID investigations had revealed that one of the suspects had met Parliamentarian Jonston Fernando and had allegedly conspired with him to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The suspects were funded by the LTTE cadre Rajan of Malaysia who had send around one million rupees to Jonston Fernando. It was also revealed that Linton Sandiresan Vardharaja had met Jonston Fernando at the Minister’s house at Madiwela on the advise of the LTTE hierarchy.
Parliamentarian Jonston Fernando had allegedly shown a place at Gregory’s Road and another place at Kirillopone to the suspects as places to which President Mahinda Rajapaksa visits constantly, CID said.
