A CID Chief Inspector and another man were arrested this afternoon after they were seen by villagers dumping a body in the sea at Paliwasalpaduwa in Mundalama, Puttalam. A double cab used for the crime was also seized.

The Mundalama police told Daily Mirror online villagers in the area had alerted the police by dialing 119 after they saw two men dumping a body from a cab into the sea this afternoon. The Mundalama police then followed the double cab and arrested the suspects.

The two suspects had shown their identification documents and one man was identified as Chief Inspector Chandana de Silva from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) while the other suspect is said to be a resident of Wellawatte.

Police say the victim is an Indian national identified as Thangarasa Selvarasu, aged around 24-30 years of age, and died of choking. The CID officer had told the police that the Indian national was an employee at a restaurant in Wellawatte and the other suspect was the owner of the restaurant. The victim had allegedly been found dead this morning hanging from a rope.

Not knowing what to do they had decided to dump the body in Puttalam, the CID officer had claimed in a statement to the police. A pistol and a cord were recovered from the double cab used in the crime. (Daily Mirror online)
