Chinese women in mobile prostitution ring granted bail

Three persons including two Chinese women and a Sri Lankan who were in remand custody for allegedly operating a mobile prostitution ring were released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.

Accordingly, the three suspects were released on two sureties of Rs.100,000 each by Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne. Meanwhile, the Magistrate issued an order on the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to prevent the two Chinese women from leaving the country. The Defence Counsel who appeared on behalf of the two Chinese women denied the charges levelled against his clients and maintained that they were visitors to Sri Lanka and had not committed such an offence.

The main suspect a Sri Lankan who had allegedly operated the ring and procured two Chinese women for prostitution had been arrested by  the Kollupitiya Police while he was being paid Rs.3,000 for the services of the two Chinese women, by the decoy who carried out the raid at 13th  Lane,  Kollupitiya,  last Thursday (23) night.

Subsequently the Kollupitiya Police had arrested the two Chinese women who were allegedly involved in the racket. The three-wheeler which was alleged to have been used for the operation was also taken into police custody. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
