Chinese man pleads guilty

The Chinese who is alleged to have stolen a Rs.1.8 million-worth diamond from a stall at the Gem and Jewellery Exhibition at the BMICH today pleaded guilty of the charges and was released on bail by a Colombo Court.

When the case was taken up by Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuili, the Counsel appearing for the Chinese suspect Heighnan Chanly Donjil pleaded guilty to the charges of theft levelled against him by Cinnamon Gardens police.

The defence counsel said his client was willing to pay a considerable amount of money though not the entire amount.( Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
