A 13 year old girl who had lost her parents during the tsunami was handed over to the police by the residents in Sigiriya after she was found abandoned in the area.

The young girl told the police she was from Kiran, Batticaloa and her parents had died in the 2004 tsunami. Her two brothers who were members of the LTTE had disappeared during the military conflicts and she had been staying with a relative who had left her in Sigiriya and fled the area.

Police are conducting investigations to find the young woman who had brought the girl to Sigiriya.

The 13 year old girl was to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate today. (Daily Mirror online)
