The Chief Incumbent of the Batticaloa Mangalarama Rajamaha Viharaya Ampitiye Sumanarathne Thero has begun a fast unto death opposite the Viharaya. The Thero has cited two reasons for his fast: requesting that the land problems within the area pertaining to Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims be solved and that the President should intervene to stop acts of revenge instituted by local government officials against the poor of all communities forthwith.
