LIVERPOOL: A support fund has been set up to help the grieving widow and two young children of a Sri Lankan man who was murdered in the Huyton shop where he worked.
Mahesh Wickramasingha, 30, was stabbed to death last November at the Huyton news agents where he worked.
He had moved to the UK just months previously to earn money to support his family back home.
But they now face being made homeless because they can no longer afford to pay rent on their small flat.
Supporters have set up a foundation in Mahesh’s name and want to raise thousands to help provide for his 28-year-old wife and sons, aged four and eight.
Dr. Gunapale Welhengama owns the Stanley News shop on Kingsway where Mahesh was killed.
He said: “Mahesh came to the UK with the intention of earning £25,000 so he could buy a house for his family in Sri Lanka and open a small business.
“He thought he would be safe over here and he would be able to support his family.
“His wife is unemployed so now they have nothing at all. (Source: Liverpool News)
