173 charged for traffic violations

Police Media Division announced that the Police would conduct an islandwide special traffic operation in future to maintain road discipline.

During a special operation conducted on Saturday in the Panadura and Kalutara Divisions, around 173 motorists had been charged with traffic violations including 59 tinted glassed vehicles.

The Police Media Unit said that the operation was conducted from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. under the guidance of Kalutara DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku.

During the operation 89 vehicles with unnecessary stickers and paintings, 21 vehicles with unauthorised horns and four unregistered vehicles were also charged.

The Unit said the operation was conducted with a view to minimise road accidents and to prevent sound pollution created by unauthorised horns.

The Police said motorists would be produced to court for violation of traffic laws. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)
