Pandemonium reigned in Parliament today after JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake started making references to various incidents of mass scale corruption and allegations against certain MPs.

Deputy Chairman of Committees, Murugesu Chandrakumar who was presiding at the time being unable to maintain order in the House suspended sittings for five minutes.

In his speech, Mr. Dissanayake referred to a government MP about his recent involvement in a brawl and amassing wealth including a few aircraft within a short span of time. This sparked angry reaction from the ruling party members who started shouting at the JVP leader.

"The SLFP is a party with a history. It produced some exemplary politicians. It consisted of leaders with honor and dignity. But it has been hijacked by some outsiders. Today, it is the duty of senior SLFPers to protect the party from these hijackers," he said amid the shouting by members.
Mr. Chandrakumar repeatedly asked those who were shouting to remain silent but it were in vain. Later, he suspended sittings for five minutes. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
