The Constitutional Council will be established within the next two months following the budget debate and members to various commissions which are now virtually defunct will also be appointed subsequently, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna told Daily Mirror online.

The failure to establish a Constitutional Council has resulted in several key commissions being inactive over a period of several months including the Bribery Commission and the Elections Commission.

However Prime Minister Jayaratna said that following the budget debate which commences next month and ends early July, the government will take measures to establish the Constitutional Council and appoint members to the various commissions through the Council.

Members will be appointed for the Bribery Commission, Police Commission, the Judicial Services Commission and the Elections Commissions, Premier Jayaratna told Daily Mirror online. (Daily Mirror online)
