The Canadian government is concerned about the anticipated arrival of a ship carrying 200 migrants from Sri Lanka, Canada’s Public Safety Minister, told guests at a luncheon at the Economic Club of Toronto this afternoon, the Canadian media reported.

The 59-metre ship, which Canadian authorities have been monitoring throughout the summer and which is expected to arrive along the British Columbia coast sometime this week, is reportedly a people-smuggling vessel and may be carrying members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, a terrorist group outlawed in Canada.

“I don’t want to comment on the operational details, but I can assure you that we are concerned about who is on that ship and why they might be coming to Canada,” Vic Toews, Canada’s Public Safety Minister, told about 50 guests at a luncheon at the Economic Club of Toronto this afternoon.
