Reformist faction of the main opposition UNP will start up a campaign to create awareness on the appointment of the national organizer of the party which they say illegal.

UNP’s Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake was appointed the national organizer of the party at the Working Committee meeting last week.
A member of the reformist group told Daily Mirror that a series of meeting would be held to educate the members of the party.

He claimed that the appointment of Mr. Karunanayake was illegal as majority of Working Committee members were not present at last week’s meeting. This same sentiment regarding the appointment was expressed by Co Deputy Leader Sajith Preamadasa at a news conference last week.

Daily Mirror learns that some of the reformists were of the opinion that legal action should be taken against the appointment but no decision had been made on it yet

However others within the party were of the opinion that Mr. Karunanayake’s appointment was legal as he was appointed through consensus as per the Constitution of the party. (Yohan Perera)
