CaFFE receives 562 Election Complaints

The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) said today it has received 562 complaints of election law violations and incidents of election related violence as of Thursday (March 6).

The CaFFE Executive Director Ranjith Keerthi Tennakoon said issuing a statement; these include 538 reports of election law violations and twenty-four incidents of election related violence,

According to CaFFE the highest number of complaints of election law violations (298) was regarding illegal election propaganda campaigns while there were 216 complaints on the misuse of public property, which included using government employees for electioneering, appointment and transfer during the election period.

It further said eighteen incidents of assault and threatening, six incidents of damaging property and illegal election propaganda were reported, related to election violence.

The most number of complaints was received from Colombo district (164) while 79 complaints from Kalutara district, 62 complaints from Gampaha district had also been reported, CaFFE said.

According to a CaFFE statement, the highest number of incidents from the Southern province had been reported from Matara district (81). They received 60 complaints from Galle and 67 from Hambantota. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
