Cables worth millions recovered

More than hundred and ten tonnes of steel cables worth over Rs. 10 million were taken into custody by an Investigation Unit of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) during a special raid.

Cooperatives and Internal Trade Affairs Ministry Media Secretary Nipun Ekanayake speaking to Daily Mirror Online said that the consignment of steel cables was discovered in Madampe, Chilaw. “The cables were of low quality and were not manufactured in adherence to the instructions given in section no 35 of the Sri Lanka Standards,” he added. 

The cables and the cable manufacturing company which was nabbed are due to be presented before the Chilaw Magistrate. Meanwhile the CAA stated that constant raids will be carried out to keep a watch out on errant manufacturing companies that produce low quality products for consumer use. (Lakna Paranamanna)
