Bus plunges down slope - 2 dead, 26 injured

Two persons were killed and 26 passengers were injured when a CTB bus plunged down a 200 metre slope in the Udupussellawa area this morning, the police said.

The bus belonging to the Keppetipola CTB depot had encountered engine trouble in the Gamapaha estate area and plunged into the slope at around 8.15 am.

Police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the injured were admitted to the Welimada Hospital. The injured were mostly school children and people who were heading to work.

The bus received extensive damages due to the accident. The Udupussellawa police are conducting investigations into the incident. (Supun Dias, Pix byK.R Rajamanthri)
