A security team providing protection to Prince Charles visited Sri Lanka recently to check out the security arrangements for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo in November, a defence official said.

He said the security officers had checked out several places in Colombo where Prince Charles was expected to visit during his stay in Sri Lanka.

Prince Charles will represent Her Majesty the Queen at the CHOGM in Sri Lanka. Earlier Buckingham Palace indicated that Her Majesty’s decision to have The Prince of Wales represent her at CHOGM 2013 was reflective of her wish to limit her long-distance travel.

Meanwhile, advance security teams of several heads of states are expected to be visit Sri Lanka soon to get the firsthand look at the security arrangements for their leaders who will attend the meeting. (Sunil Jayasiri)
