Brig. Hapuarachchi new military spokesman

Brigadier H.A. Nihal Hapuarachchi of the Sri Lanka Engineering Corps will assume duties as the military spokesman today.

During his 29-year service in the Army which he joined in 1982 he has held several Command and Staff appointments.

During the war, he served as Brigadier General Staff at the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters and handled a challenging task in Jaffna as troops were advancing towards the North during Wanni humanitarian operations.

He replaces Major General Ubaya Medawala. Brigadier Hapuarachchi, also served as Commanding Officer of the 7th Field Engineers of the of Sri Lanka Engineers in Infantry role and Commandant, of the Military Engineering School, Commander of the 513 Infantry Brigade and had the opportunity of working as an Officer Instructor and subsequently as the Chief Instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
He has also served as a Staff Director at the then Army Command and Staff College, now the Defence Services Command and Staff College at Sapugaskanda.
